The alarming developments in Europe’s housing markets and the increasing number of homeless people were discussed at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on January 13th. Agnes Jongerius, Member of the European Parliament from The Netherland (Socialdemocrats), stresses the importance of focussing not only on homelessness in the EU, but also on affordable and social housing for all citizens.
“I will call on everybody to sign the petition “Housing for All”. That would be a way of making sure that the European institutions and Commission get down to work and make sure that there is affordable housing for everybody. It calls also on the Commission to develop a European plan. Not only to deal with homelessness, but also to work for affordable housing for all European citizens.”
